Work Package 5: Geospatial data integration
WP Leader: PoliBari
WP5 is the project’s cornerstone, bringing together the resources required to analyse risk in coastal regions using modelling methodologies approved by the European Commission. Its goal is to empower stakeholders by cultivating insights and strategies thorough data analysis, extensive modelling, and policies formulation. Thus, this WP contains critical materials to help decision-makers make informed choices regarding coastal management.
Key Objectives:
- a) Scientific background: This provides a robust scientific basis in accordance with the logic of the European Commission’s modelling approach. It entails conducting comprehensive literature studies, model simulations, and gathering pertinent data based on the specific requirements of the project.
- b) Data Collection and Methodology: Through effective data collection, various types of data, utilizing both existing and new data with advanced models and algorithms, are gathered. Furthermore, strong relationships between environmental factors and climatic indicators, which are required for risk modelling, are explored too.
- c) Vulnerability and Risk Assessment: This phase focuses on simplifying indicators and assessing risks based on risk modelling. By analysing sensitivity and exposure, detailed characteristics and quantities of elements at risk are provided across temporal and spatial dimensions. Furthermore, vulnerability of various elements at risk within the study is identified.
