Another successful secondment of the COASTLINE project is ended. Katerina Mazioti (Cyprus University of Technology / Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου) has completed her secondment at Aegean Solutions, on Lesvos Island. It was 3 productive months during which she exchanged knowledge and good practices with the hosting partner, while investigating the influence of marine water quality on the growth or decline of P. oceanica meadows.
Katerina combined data previously generated by the COASTLINE project with new information retrieved from various sources. Through the Copernicus database, satellite imagery was used to mine marine water quality recordings over the past 25 years. Additionally, field measurements of water quality parameters were collected from public bodies responsible for MSFD and WFD implementation and monitoring. These elements were combined to explain and link the trends observed to P. oceanica over the past few years in a selected case study area (Limassol Bay).
Returning to CUT, Katerina is enthusiastic about further advancing the work done so far in WP4 and following the next research steps of the COASTLINE project.
