Katerina Mazioti at MedGU2025

Research results produced through the COASTLINE project were presented in the 5th Annual Meeting of the Mediterranean Geosciences Union held in Athens. Katerina Mazioti presented via virtual participation the outcomes of the investigation on the distribution trends of Posidonia Oceanica in Limassol Bay (Cyprus) in association with marine water quality and anthropogenic pressures. This study was a collaborative work summarizing the outcomes of two secondments realized by Κ. Mazioti and I. Savva from CUT, hosted by Aegean Solutions and FORTH respectively.

This short presentation described the methodology and results of P. oceanica mapping with the use of PlanetScope for the area of Limassol. The coverage differences were identified for the period 2017-2025. Additionally, water quality timeseries were retrieved from Copernicus database and anthropogenic pressures were allocated using EMODnet. These elements were combined to explain and link the growth or decline trends of P. oceanica observed.
